To celebrate the launch of the first dineLA of 2011, the Stone Rose Lounge hosted a hopping kick-off party at the Sofitel Los Angeles this past Wednesday night. The packed event attracted local glitterati like Border Grill’s Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken, as well as The Tar Pit and Campanile’s Mark Peel, and, arriving in a cowboy hat and apron on a bicycle that he parked at the hotel’s valet, Mark Gold from Eva.
The star attraction, though, was the “dessert room,” a gobsmacking table laid end to end with resident chef Kerry Simon’s signature junk food odes to childhood nostalgia (e.g., miniature versions of Hostess cupcakes). Other treats includes Christophe Happillon’s swanky little oyster bar; an inventive pretzel bread pudding with pork; and the cocktail of the evening, cucumber and pomegranate spritzers made with Pearl vodka.
Now in its sixth season, dineLA, a bi-annual initiative created by LA INC. and American Express to showcase Los Angeles as a premier dining destination, offers diners a chance to sample specially-priced three-course lunches and dinners from about 300 of the city’s restaurants. The Winter edition welcomes newcomers The Beechwood (featuring Top Chef All-Star Jamie Lauren), Topanga-funky Inn of the Seventh Ray, and enormously popular The Hungry Cat.
dineLA will take place over two weeks, from January 23-28 and January 30-February 4, 2011. For more information, visit the Restaurant Week site.
