Lion Coffee Partners with Hawaiian Airlines

Hawaiian Airlines announced late last week that it had chosen local Lion Coffee as its official coffee partner for all inter-island flights. According to the details of the partnership with Hawaii Coffee Company, the owners of Lion, an “exclusive, darker French roast” was created for the airline, designed for brewing at higher altitudes. Managing Director of Product Development at Hawaiian Airlines, Renee Awana, said of the multi-year agreement:

“We consider many product attributes when looking for the best coffee to serve our guests, specifically the quality of the roast and the overall sensory experience…Lion Coffee, a trusted Hawaii brand, checked all of the boxes and is the perfect complement to our existing menu of Island-inspired beverages and cuisine.”

Denmark Wins Bocuse d’Or

Toques off to Denmark’s culinary team for taking home the win at the international biennial cooking competition held in Lyon, France. Danish chef Kenneth Toft-Hansen was awarded this year’s trophy by Jérôme Bocuse, president of the Bocuse d’Or, after an emotional awards ceremony remembering famed chef Paul Bocuse, who passed away last year. US chef Mathew Peters and his team took home the trophy in 2017.

Choose Your Airline Food Wisely

In conjunction with the Hunter College NYC Food Policy Center, the “Diet Detective”, Dr. Charles Platkin, released his annual review of airline food and drink just a few months ago – and it’s a thorough read. Platkin analyzed the onboard offerings of eleven major airlines, including American, Jet Blue, and Air Canada. In addition, Platkin and his team acquired feedback from airline representatives on their company guidelines for food safety procedures. Alaska Airlines received top honors this round.

Get Your Tiki On… in Indianapolis?

Sure, it’s well into winter temperatures and snow flurries in the Midwest, but Indianapolis Monthly dropped a little ray of sunshine with its roundup of tiki tropical destinations in the capital city. Most notably, big shouts out to Daily Blender favorite, Ed Rudisell, on the opening of The Inferno Room with co-owner, Chris Coy. Already leading the restaurant and bar scene with Black Market, Rook, and Siam Square, Rudisell –  who manages the collection with his wife, Sasatorn – wanted to bring his love of rum and island life to Indiana with the new venture.
