The Side Dish: Mixing It Up at Daily Blender

When I took over ownership of Daily Blender back in April, I mentioned that there would be a few changes with a new captain on the boat. I’ve been keeping a list of ideas for Daily Blender – from features to partnerships – and I’m finally implementing them one by one! Here’s the latest on the evolution! Hope you enjoy!

1) New pages! In case you hadn’t noticed yet, our Food & Wine Events page went live last week, after much request from our readers. While it’s certainly not an all-encompassing list (who could compete with FoodReference.com?) I’ve included a few of my favorites, and some of the bigger food shows around the world. Interested in seeing your event listed? Shoot me an email and we’ll talk!

Over the next coming weeks, you’ll see our Fave Food Finds page come to life as well! Look for a list and links to my favorite foodie books, products, and restaurants. While I’ll leave the long bits of kitchen utensils and cookbooks to other food writers, I do have a few favorite foodie finds I’d love to share.

2) New categories! While I’ll certainly keep plugging away with food and drink festivals, I wanted to include an additional category for smaller events, so beginning this week, I’m adding ‘edible events’ to the mix here on Daily Blender. The new category will include notes and photos from smaller food related events of interest to our readers. Upcoming ‘edible events’ include this week’s Portland Monthly Best Burger bash, Chef Tom Douglas and his ‘F is for Food’ event at Seattle’s Bumbershoot, and a Portland visit from Gourmet’s Editor-in-chief Ruth Reichl, so stay tuned!

I’m very excited about another new category – ‘Travel Bites’. With so many hotels and airlines stepping into the culinary wrestling ring, I wanted to bring a bit of notice to some of the fabulous food happenings in the travel world. How is the new Executive Chef handling Fairmont’s New York Plaza Hotel? What are the bites like at Kimpton’s new B&O Brasserie in Baltimore? Can we expect to see Ducasse in the kitchen at the W Retreat & Spa in Puerto Rico? Check out ‘Travel Bites’ for news on great places to eat and stay!

3) New ways to stay in touch! In addition to our fun-filled Twitter roll, I’ve jumped on the Facebook fan page bandwagon. Become a fan of Daily Blender and get a chance to see behind-the-scenes pics and coverage of great food and wine features.
