Hurray! Purple is Up For Grabs!

The folks over at Food Business Review are reporting that an Australian court ruled today that Cadbury Schweppes, the makers of my favorite Easter nosh and other fine sweets, does not possess any intellectual copyright over the color purple. The latest decision puts to rest a lawsuit filed by Cadbury against Australian confectioner Darrell Lea for using the color.

It turns out Cadbury wasn’t the only company to have a color trademarked. According to this post, other companies hold color rights as well. Who knew you could trademark a color?

  • The color blue is trademarked by the Dow Chemical Company.
  • The color pink is owned by Owens Corning.
  • T-Mobile likes their magenta.
